Once upon a time, there lived a fox in a forest. One day, the fox became thirsty while wandering through the forest in search of food. He finally found a pond after walking for a long time.
1
Seeing the pond, the fox was happy and thought he could drink a good amount of water from this pond and then go back. Then, after drinking enough water, the fox, who tried to get out of the pond, could not get out as he had planned. There were no steps to climb out of the pond. The rocks were also slippery.
2
Only then did the fox realise its mistake. It realised when it entered the pond that it had slipped on the slippery rocks in a hurry because it was so thirsty.
3
The frightened fox looked around. There were only slippery rocks everywhere. There was no way out. Now, the fox could not get out of the pond.
4
‘How can I get out of this pond? There are no steps to climb, no plant or tree branch to grab onto. How can I get out of here?’ the fox thought.
5
While the fox was wondering about its escape from the pond, a lost goat came by.
6
The goat, unaware that the fox could not get out of the pond, asked the fox; “Friend, is the water in this pond good to drink?”
7
The fox was delighted to see the goat and immediately thought of a way to escape from there. It enthusiastically answered the goat’s question; “The water from this pond is the best I have ever drunk. You, too, come over here and drink some.”
8
Hearing the fox’s answer, the goat jumped into the pond without thinking about anything else. As soon as the goat jumped into the pond, the fox immediately jumped on the goat’s back and reached the pond’s shore.
9
The goat watched in surprise what had happened to him in a few seconds. It knew that the fox had deceived him. The fox now stood on the shore of the pond and laughed loudly.
10
The goat thought to himself; ‘What a fool I am. I fell into this pond, believing what the fox said, without looking at anything else. Now, how will I get to the shore?’
11
The goat grieved and asked the fox; “Why did you deceive me? Why did you hide from me that no one can climb up from this pond?”
12
Hearing this, the fox, without hesitation, said to the goat; “You should have thought about it before you went into the pond. Why are you putting your burden on me?”
13
Immediately, the goat said; “I saw you as a good friend. That’s why I believed what you said. Please save me from here somehow.”
14
Hearing this, the fox told the goat, “Why did you trust me, whom you have never met before? I am lucky to have my life back. I don’t have time to save you. Save yourself if you can,” and ran away.
15
The goat, not knowing what to do, cried all night in the pond.
16
The next day, the goat’s owner found that the goat had not returned home and came through the forest searching for it.
17
When he heard the goat’s crying coming from the pond, he was delighted. He rescued the goat from the pond and took it home.
18
The meaning of this story is that before helping someone, you should first learn about their intentions.
